A Lack in blogging as well, but that doesn’t bother me. In fact, be prepared to see fewer updates, because its (almost) September.
I started the fall semester on Tuesday. I’m not sure what to think of it yet. I originally signed up for a class in modeling and simulation, but I was offered to do a direct study with one of my previous professors. I jumped at the offer. So now I will be the battery lab, conducting research and analyzing data on ultracapacitors. It appears that I exchanged homework, quizzes and exams with a lot of lab work and a 40 page report. I hope I made the right decision. There’s a chance that my name might be added to a publication for my contribution – so that’s cool.
Jack turned two on Monday. Holy crap! On Friday, we went to Greenfield Village with “Aunt” Miranda (Inner Circle Photography) and “Uncle” Adam. Miranda had her camera with her and took some shots for his 2 year photos. I may be able to share a couple when they’re ready with Miranda’s permission.
Sunday was Jack’s birthday dinner with the family. Unfortunately my sisters had already left for school and couldn’t make it, but they’ll see him over Labor Day weekend. He had a Thomas the Tank Engine Themed party complete with Thomas decorations, Thomas cupcakes on Thomas plates while drinking from Thomas cups and Thomas gifts…he really likes Thomas.
Monday I took a vacation day to spend with Jack. We made a big breakfast. Lauren put a candle in his pancakes and we sang happy birthday to him. Then we were off to Frankenmuth for the day. We stopped at Bronner’s just to look around. We knew we’d be back before Christmas, but we couldn’t pass up one item…a 2010 “Baby’s First Christmas” ornament. The exact one that broke last Christmas when the tree fell. I was told they didn’t have anymore, yet here there were 2 left for final sale. We snatched it up with a big sigh of relief. We headed downtown, for the must-do’s of Frankenmuth: Cheese Haus, Country Store, Zehnder’s and Bavarian Inn. Out in front of Bavarian Inn, they had a beer garden with two guys on stage. We had a beer and let Jack dance around. He seemed to enjoy himself.
Well all this fun and vacationing has led to a drop in my training. I left my gym bag at work over the weekend, which meant no shoes or clothes for my 17 miler on Sunday. I never thought I would miss a long run of that magnitude unless I was sick or injured. Hopefully that will be the last of it. I really need to get back on track and stay focused. Its been hard ever since the trip Up North and now with school starting back up, its only going to get harder.
I have an 18 mile run to complete this weekend. There should be a few options since its Labor Day weekend. For those in the area, Hanson’s in Royal Oak will be hosting a 16 mile run on Sunday, complete with water stations. You don’t have to run the full 16 to join. Maybe I can find some people willing to go the extra 2 miles with me. If not, there’s always the GP Runners Group to keep me company.
So there you have it, an extremely long blog post to make up for the lack of posting to come.
