I ran 18 miles today. That’s two more miles than my previous longest run. I missed my 17 mile long run last week, so I was a little worried about today. Wasn’t sure logistically how I was going to cover so much ground with only a 20 oz belt. Luckily, I got a text from Anthony. His brother-in-law had 20 miles on his plan and so the three of us coordinated to go out together. Anthony played crew on his bike with plenty of water.
They left Anthony ‘s at 5 am and I joined them once they came past my house. I was caught off-guard by just how humid it was. 3 miles in and I was drenched. The sun wouldn’t be up for another hour either. My strategy of using KT Tape as nipple guards has been holding up. Seems to work better than band-aids. Speaking of, Robbie could of used one. He had some scab on his torso that opened up. It looked like he was shot. Picture to come.
At this rate I don’t know how I’m going to break 5 hours. McMillan claims I can finish this thing in under 4:30, but I have my doubts.
After the run. I ravaged the house for eats. I killed some chips with salsa and found some smoked beef sticks qnd some cheese. I heard Scott Jurek shedding a tear as I sunk my teeth into meat and dairy.
After a quick shower we packed up and headed out to the zoo. For S&G, I turned on my GPS. We managed 3 miles of walking. As tired as my legs were, I think the walking helped a lot.
Knee pain was minimal. I’ll give some of that credit to the PureCadences. This was my first long run in them. They passed the test.
So somehow I’m supposed to add 2 more miles to my long run in the next 3 weeks. It doesn’t seem too bad, except that’s still a 10k short of the full distance. As the Detroit Marathon draws closer, I’m getting more and more nervous.
Once again the full and both halfs have sold out. I’m hoping I make another friend like I did at the Let’s Move Half. His company is why I was able to run 9:30 in the last 6 miles.
