I’ve decided not to run the Superbowl Shuffle 4 mile for a 4k race instead. I’ve never done a 4k before, but this will undoubtedly be harder than any 5k I’ve ever raced. The Kahtoola Michigan Mountain Run treks up and down the snowy ski slopes of Pine Knob. You can also run it twice for the 8k event. Here’s the course map:
So not only does it have several climbs at about 7% grade, this course is entirely on packed snow, something entirely new to me. Currently there’s a base of 2-4 feet with a month of Winter storms still to come. The race highly recommends some sort of traction system. Wouldn’t you know, Kahtoola is the brand of one of those. I don’t think I can justify the $50 for their microspikes, since I might wear them only once this year. The cheapskate I am is looking at two options:
- Screw Studs
- Off Brand Yak Trax at Costco
As for studding my shoes, it would be my Defyances. As much as I would love to wear my new PureGrits, I don’t think I could drill them.
These off brand YakTraks are like $10. They may only last this one race, but its worth a try. Plus I could wear my Grits.
So, anyone interested in running this with me?
Its on Superbowl Sunday. Maybe if I’m not dead afterwards, I can strap on my skis for some runs. Then I would surly earn that party sub I’m already drooling over.
Update: Still waiting on confirmation from Hanson’s that I got a spot. There were only 10 spots available for the Hanson’s circuit members.
Update Deuce: I’m in!
