I loved this race last year. It was like 10° along the river and even colder once we reach Lake Huron. Snow and ice covered the course making it a very slippery road race.
Well that was last year. This year was a balmy 45° with almost no snow, but wet pavement and dirt roads. Anything above 40° is shorts weather in my book. Even the long sleeve shirt was too hot at some points.
The race participation was at least 3X more than last year. Probably because they gave out some sweet Nike Element 1/2 zips this year.
In the car ride up was me, Anthony, Chrissy and her friend Cara. We were able to park about 50 yds from the start line. There were only 3 ports pottys and a line that went forever. While in line, we saw the other GP Runners, including new member Betsy.
The race is such a nice course. We run the road that follows the river, under the Blue Water Bridge, circle around some residential streets, through a park and back to the Elite Feet store.
Anthony and I stuck together up until the final stretch. I didn’t think I was going to keep a 9:20 average, considering all I’ve been running is closer to 10:00. But I did.
I finished at 46:27, about 20 seconds slower than last year, but I’m happy with it.
Anthony’s dad was there to snap a bunch of pictures. Damn we look goofy.
After the race, we warmed up in the tent, but passed on the chocolate. Instead, we found a Coney for some breakfast.
Was anyone else there? What did you think of it? I think I’ll continue to keep this one on my calendar for future winters.
