Some people hate running in the Winter. They stay indoors, exclusive to the boring hamster wheel.
Not me. I love when it snows. Sure you lose some traction and your feet get wet, but that just adds to the excitement. I run most of my midweek miles on the dreadful treadmill, but that’s only because I do it during my lunch hour at work. Plus to run outside I need to keep my badge on me to re-enter.
Today, we got an unexpected 2 inches if snow during my 9 mile run. Anthony ran down to me to get his extra 3. When we left, there was barely anything on the ground. I joked, “should I wear my YakTrax?” Mother Nature heard me and soon after we could barely see ahead of us.
By mile 3 I could feel my facial hair collecting snow and by mile 4, we looked like Yeti.
We originally planned to run in the morning, well before the storm came in. Anthony said during the run, “I’m glad we waited, or we would have missed out on running in this snow.” And that wasn’t sarcasm. The thing is. We live for this kind of stuff. 9 miles in the snow-free morning would have been boring. We might have even cut it short.
Despite what the groundhog did or didn’t see, we still have a good month left of Winter in Michigan. And I couldn’t be happier.
Are we alone? Does anyone else love getting outside in the frigid cold for their runs?
