Thanks to Renewal by Andersen, I have a free entry into this year’s Fight for Air Climb. Its only a couple of weeks away, but I would like to still maybe get some donations to their cause. Details on that to come once I get them.
About the Fight for Air Climb
The Detroit Fight for Air Climb challenges individuals “vertical road race” up the 70 floors of the Detroit Renaissance Center. That’s a total of 1,035 stairs. The event is held as a fundraiser to support the American Lung Association. For over 100 years, the ALA has been fighting to promote lung health and prevent diseases of the lungs through education, advocacy and research.
About Renewal by Andersen
Renewal by Andersen- Detroit is always giving away free entries through their Facebook page. I have been trying to snag one for a while now. They hold contests; sometimes asking to post a photo or, sometimes you have to be the first to answer a question. This time, they asked everyone to submit an interesting fact about stair climbing.
Thanks to Google Scholar, I submitted this:
A study in the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine found that the rate of energy cost for a fireman climbing a staircase with uniform and equipment required an ability to consume at least 2.7 L of oxygen per minute.
That means last year’s 122 fully geared participants consumed approximately 10,000 Liters of O2!
So thank you to the people at at Renewal for giving me the opportunity. I know several other bloggers (WatchMeGoRun, DetroitRunner) that have raced for your team and I’m glad I can now be one of them.
If you want to try and score a free race entry, like their Facebook page and look for future giveaways.
