There’s a little bit of everything here.
We’ve reached nearly 20 participants (recruits). Many of which still need to send in their baseline score. It takes about an hour with all the breaks between events. I scored a 186 on mine. It was still considered a fail according to the US Army (I only scored a 51 in sit-ups). That’s okay. There’s plenty of room for improvement. I set my goal score at 242.
Fight for Air
Thanks to Renewal by Andersen, I was given a free entry into the Detroit Fight for Air Climb for this Sunday. Its a vertical race up the 1,035 stairs of the Detroit Renaissance Center to support the American Lung Association. You can help out by going to my ALA page and giving a small donation. Every dollar counts.
Still getting my miles in week by week. A few 3 mile runs during the midweek and a longer run on Saturdays. Anthony was in Florida this weekend with Chrissy who completed the Disney Princess Half Marathon – her 2nd half. Rather than going solo for 10 miles, I joined up with some GP Runners. Its nice to have a group of runners that are always up for keeping company on a run.
I’ve slowly been trying to get into strength training. The APFT Challenge is a good motivator to remind me that I need to do more than cardio. Mostly, I have been doing push-ups, sit-ups and planks, but last week I devoted an hour to the weight machines at work. I’ll try to do that weekly.
Its been nearly 8 weeks since I began a more conscious effort to lose weight. Some days have been better than others. I try to log my calorie ins and outs on MyFitnessPal, but I miss here and there. This past weekend my weigh-in marked a 7 lb loss over those 8 weeks. Sure, its not quite the 1 lb/week I’ve been striving for, but I’m not far off. I can’t complain as long as I keep moving in the right direction.
In related news, my bathroom scale died after almost 5 years. I took to Amazon to find me a replacement and ended up going with a scale from a small company called EatSmart, I’ve been using it for the past week and decided to give it a review, which you can read here.
