It was a busy weekend. I attended two races, but didn’t compete in either…
Let’s Move Festival of Races
I ran the Let’s Move half last year as my second half. This year I decided to pass on it, but it didn’t stop me from spectating. I took Jack down to watch his Aunt Julie compete in the 5k.
I was a little disheartened to see so few spectators. My sister said we were the first people she saw cheering and that was a quarter-mile from the finish. I hope the crowds grew for the half, but I wasn’t able to stick around to see.
Saturday “Strength” Training
After Let’s Move I dropped Jack off at home and headed to my in-laws to help move some furniture, now that they’re back home for the summer. I felt bad that most was moved by the time I got there, but I was able to help some. They have had a treadmill in their basement for over a year now that isn’t working. They had two servicemen out to fix it with no luck. They were given a full refund and didn’t have to return it.
I found out why. I decided to take on the challenge of trying to get it to work. It’s a really nice treadmill and I’d hate to see it go to the junkyard. So my Father-in-law and I got it to my house. That was no small feat. This thing is solid steel, and easily weighed 500 lbs. It now sits in my garage, half-assembled with the access panels removed. This would be awesome to get working!
Running Fit Trail Marathon and 50K
Race #2 I attended this weekend, this time as a pacer for Anthony. The trail is no joke in normal weather. Add in the cold wind and rain, the course is brutal. The 50K consists of two 13.1 mile loops, followed by a 4.8 mile loop. I jumped in for the second loop and considered the final 4.8. I know Anthony is planning a race report, so I won’t steal his thunder. I will say he did an awesome job, digging deep and coming out from the lowest of low, ready to quit to getting a second wind at mile 21.
Its a completely different world, pacing someone versus racing it yourself. Your only focus the entire time is on your partner; so much so that you don’t realize your own issues. Apparently I was stung by something on my hand while we were out there. I didn’t notice my hand was all swollen until we were heading back to the car. I have more to post on this, but I’ll save it for another day.
Lauren’s new 30 Day Challenge
Last, but not least; Sunday was the start of Lauren’s latest 30 day challenge (#30bdaychallenge). For the next 30 days, she is devoting at least 30 minutes a day to exercise. Knowing my wife, just 30 minutes will rarely be the case. In the past two days, she’s already done over 2 hours. By no coincidence, day 30 is also her 30th birthday. I think she deserves some sort of awesome reward/present. Any and all suggestions welcome.
