Another month gone means another APFT test to score.
First off, it looks like there are only a couple recruits still going strong. I’ll admit, there were times that I didn’t want to go on. If you are one of those that decided to drop, you can always come back.
As for the three (including myself) that had scores to share, I must say we’re kicking some ass.
Jack and Emily P. are a husband and wife duo that have been fully committed to reaching their goals. In a recent email conversation with Jack, I asked how he was training for it. They have a rigid system in place. Along with a healthy diet, they focus on a single target each day. Their weekly schedule looks something like this:
- Fartleks (speedwork)
- Full-Body workout (e.g. Insanity)
- Long Slow Run of 4 Miles
- Weekly Test
It certainly covers all grounds and seems to be working. This month Emily’s score has jumped from 193 to 217 and Jack’s from 181 to 203! They’re both on track of reaching their goals.
As for me, I wasn’t expecting a good score this month. Training for my half has taken priority, so my strength training was cut down a bit. Plus my bout of tendonitis caused a month of overall low activity. And if that didn’t have me worried, the fact that I was (and still am a bit) sore from my 13 miles on Sunday did.
Enough dramatics — I rocked it with a 238! This is 4 points away from my original goal. Of course, I won’t stop at my goal. Who knows, maybe I can hit the 270 mark.
So if you fell off the wagon, hop back on it! There’s still May and June left in the challenge.
