Haven’t been writing too much these past 6 weeks and for good reason – I haven’t been running.
That’s not completely true. I just finished the Detroit Turkey Trot this past Thursday with my best time yet. Recap to come, hopefully later this week.
It Happens Every Year
No running, means nothing to write about. No running also means my weight is on the rise. It happens every year, and it starts the second I cross the finish line at the Detroit Marathon. I break from running to give my legs a rest, but more importantly to catch up on life: school, work, housework, sleep. None of those things burn calories like running, so my weight starts to rise and by Christmas, I’m completely upset with myself.
This year I hope to break the pattern. I can’t just let November and December slide every year. November passed and I did a lousy job with my weight, so its time to pull in the reins and start making healthy choices – or at least cut down on the unhealthy choices.
My goal isn’t actually to lose X lbs. Rather, its to lower my Body Fat %. So my focus will be on diet and strength. Running burns a massive amount of calories, which is great, but it can bite you. I grew accustomed to a diet that was only possible because of the 400+ calories/day that I would burn through running. I want to train my mind to think of those calories burned as nothing more than bonus.
Am I just rambling? Sorry.
So back I go to MyFitnessPal. You can befriend me on there if you like. My user name is (surprise!) RunRunJohnny.
Weigh-In Wednesday posts will probably come back as well.
